The Place at Evoramonte is at the very top of our wonderful hill, inside the stone city walls, right next to our famous castle. There is no other place like this for miles around.
At The Place we have the perfect, private spot for breakfast, dinner and relaxing – The Terraces.
Reserved for the exclusive use of our guests, these two large terraces offer tables, shade, quiet and breathtaking views across the Alentejo. You can see all the way to Evora on the left – and across towards Estremoz on the right, and as far as your eyes will see to the west, directly in front. It is here, in the evening, that you will see the Legendary Sunsets of Evoramonte.
Breakfast is served here. Inside or outside depending on your preference. You can sit, take your time, and plan the day’s activities while sipping fresh coffee. Perfect.
All day. Just drop in when you feel the need. You will have your own key. There is an honesty bar with water, cold drinks and beer. Sit inside. Sit outside. Sit in the shade. Sit in the sun. Read. Watch for griffon vultures. Watch the birds. Use the BBQ facilities. Do nothing. The choice is yours.
Dinner. We serve dinner between. 19:00 and 19:30. Enjoy a great dinner and you can stay on the terraces as long as you like. You will be facing the sunset – and there are few experiences to match the sun setting right in front of you as you sample some of the local wine. Most nights we will also be here, on the terrace, doing the same. It’s one of the reasons we came to live here.
Relax and enjoy the most incredible 220 degree views across the whole valley, from the terrace of The Place at Evoramonte.
- Cheese & Ham Platter
The bread is baked by Pedro Dionisio at Vimieiro (if you look over the valley, that is just to the right), and we present this with three different cheeses, two different presunto and a chorizo. Along with olives, olive oil and tomato jam. (Sometimes there is no tomato jam so we replace it with pumpkin jam – equally tasty).
- Roast Duck & Sweet Potato
Slow roasted duck, mixed with sweet potato wedges that have been roasted in olive oil and spices. Served warm with a fresh lime and chilly dressing. We believe this dish is unique in the region – a favourite among the regulars.
We make the base from scratch, here in our kitchen, every morning. We allow the flour and yeast to rise twice, making sure that the foundation for our thin-crust pizza is just right. Each Pizza is prepared only once it is ordered to ensure the best quality gets to your plate. Now we are ready to add the fresh ingredients of your choice - presunto & pineapple, three cheeses, chorizo, or cheese & presunto.
Bread roll from Pedro Dionisio at Vimieiro, a great start. Then we grill a decent sized burger, add it to the roll with fresh lettuce and tomato. And, of course, the secret South African sauce. Delicious. We serve it with lettuce and tomato. Cool huh?!
